As expected, the Barons easily defeated the Palos Verdes Sea Kings 17-3 Thursday night in the annual Homecoming football game.
The Baron defense held strong the whole game, only allowing the Sea Kings a field goal in the second quarter. This was quite impressive, considering they were down multiple starters.
The offense also proved outstanding, scoring two touchdowns and one field goal. The first touchdown came easily in the first quarter by senior Artie O’Keefe. The Barons soon after ensured their lead going into halftime with a solid field goal by starting kicker Bryan Erskine (’09).
Erskine didn’t have much time to celebrate though, since as soon as halftime began, he had to take his place as one of the five boys on the homecoming court. Many in the crowd seemed more interested in this aspect of the game than in the game itself.
However, the crowd wasn’t disappointed. As soon as halftime began, the court was announced and escorted onto the field. Though it was a tad less ceremonious and creative than years past, no one seemed to mind and all were excited as Tracy Vo and Jesse Dalton were crowned homecoming queen and king.
But, as quickly as they were announced, they were presented with their customary crowns, robes, and sashes by the former ruling couple, sat on the throne for a quick picture, and were promptly escorted off the field so the game could begin again.
Jazzed up by the excitement at halftime, the Barons came back even more outstanding in the second half. They continued to score another touchdown in the third quarter, this one through a solid rush by running back Kyle Middlebrooks (’10).
The defense also continued to impress, with an exceptional interception by senior Scott Bailey. They did not allow the Sea Kings any more opportunities to score, and ended the game with a solid 17-3 win.
