Get Lost in the Sound of Separation

This album is a “Perfect Little Circle”

As one reflects upon Lost in the Sound of Translation, one can\’t help but think of the obstacles the band overcame to make this production what it is. From battling substance abuse to the nearly ending the band, the Florida sextet managed to survive and hit full force with their sixth studio album.

As a result, Underoath hit harder and stronger than ever with an eleven track masterpiece, one filled with guttural growls and intense instrumentals that will shake you to your core. Its beginning melodies are calm, but once the song reaches its chorus line, the song becomes enraptured by edgy riffs that will overwhelm any sensible person\’s ears.

Underoath pulls no punches.

The album starts off strong with the first track, “Breathing in a new Mentality.” It begins with a low quiet chorus, a short pause, and then hits you where it hurts. Spencer Chamberlain, lead singer, dominates this song with his guttural vocals and heart-pumping screams.

The album keeps its momentum with its third song, “A Fault Line, a Fault of Mine.” It begins with a dreamlike intro that leads into a fast paced riff, in which the harmony between both Aaron Gillespie (clean vocals) and Spencer Chamberlain rockets to an all new high.

Underoath then raises the adrenaline-pumping, fist-pumping music with its fifth track, “The Only Survivor was Miraculously Unharmed.” The song wastes no time and gets right in your face with its bombastic drumming and harsh vocals. The best part is when it takes a sharp turn from the hardcore and leads straight into melodic chants that build up into a crescendo.

Perhaps the beauty of this album doesn\’t lie in each single track, but in the album as a whole. Each song has been strategically placed to give the album a story book, complementing quality. One example is the ending of “The Only Survivor was Miraculously Unharmed,” which builds to  yet another crescendo and then cuts for a couple seconds, leaving the listener unaware of what\’s coming next. However, the next song, “We Are the Involuntary,” gets right to the chase and implements many features of the previous track.

Final Score: 9/10
