Player Spotlight – Loren Tengan
By Camille Linares-Reed, Sports Editor
For those of you who know Loren Tengan, you would know how impressive he is. For those of us who don’t personally know him, Loren is a senior who has got it all going on. He is a leading scorer on the varsity water polo team, a varsity golf captain, an Eagle Scout, as well a 5.0 GPA-honors student.
The Baron Banner caught up with Loren to ask him a few questions about water polo, school, and his plans for the future.
Baron Banner: So Loren, how did you get involved in water polo?
Loren Tengan: I started off on Nova’s club swim team, but hated it. However, I couldn’t stay out of the water, so in 7th grade, I tried water polo and really liked it.
BB: Are you involved in any other extracurricular school activities?
LT : I’m a Varsity golf captain, but that’s about it, no clubs.
BB: What can we expect from this year’s water polo team in League and CIF ?
LT: We’re hoping to get our first CIF berth in a while. League wise, we have to win against Esperanza, Edison, and Marina. If we win against all three, we’ll be third place in league, sending us to the CIF prelims.
BB: Who will be FV’s biggest competition this year?
LT: Newport Harbor by a long shot. They’re MEN. It’s like the NFL (Newport) vs. OCC (Fountain Valley).
BB: Who do you think will do well on the team this season? Any possible record breakers?
LT : I don’t know about record breakers, but we have five very strong seniors on the team who have a lot of talent and will help us achieve our best.
BB: What is your dream college?
LT: I have my heart set on Stanford. I’m aiming for an academic scholarship, but who knows.
BB: Do you have any plans to continue playing water polo in college?
LT: Absolutely not. I love the sport, but when I get into college, I want to be able to focus on what’s important, like grades.
BB: Thank you for your time and good luck against Newport Harbor.
LT: You’re welcome, any time.
