Barons, the word of the day is fearless.
Last week, Jessica Herman, Makenna Henry, Brooklyn Paxson, Sohail Tehrani and I journeyed over to Huntington Beach to enemy territory. In the spirit of the Charger-Baron Rivalry and to honor tradition, the five of us went to do a mock interview with the green and gold students asking them simple questions such as what a Charger is, how the rivalry started and what their favorite colors are. The enduring forty-five minutes were filled with food and insults being hurled at us from all angles.
But we expected all these things, the physical and verbal abuse. Why? Because unlike past years, where the interviewers strolled onto Chargerland wearing yellow and green, pretending to be one of them, the five of us tried something new and maybe even a bit controversial.
“I have been waiting to do for this for years. And now that I\’m here, I kind of what to pee in my pants,” Jessica Herman admitted, laughing at herself.
We entered EHS with a swagger never seen before; no more hiding, no more pretending and no more tricks. We marched onto the campus decked out in blue, gold and red.
After the battle, Sohail Tehrani looked me in the eye and said, “I honestly felt like I was entering a warzone. I was scared stiff but I had my blue and gold to protect me.”
With a brand new school year, an undefeated football season and new BBN management, the five of us felt true Baron Pride. The five of us felt fearless.
