The boys\’ varsity soccer team is jumping into a highly anticipated season this week as they reflect on a loss to Costa Mesa in one of their preseason games. They did pretty well last season, making it to CIF playoffs but losing in the second round to the Long Beach Millikans.

Junior, Brandon Dang kicks the ball.

The Boys have been working exceptionally hard in training and conditioning for this season to replace the loss of the 16 seniors from last season.

“We have been working really hard for the common goal to get to the CIF Playoffs, ” says Coach Smith.

“We have a young team and if we bust our butts we could do well,” says Coach Brummett.

This Year we have our Team Captains Josh Garcia (\’10) and Raffi Geck (\’10). Raffi will be playing as the goalkeeper for the first time on a varsity level, after losing last season\’s goalkeeper and junior, Tyler Folkins.

“A lot of people think we are good for nothing, but we are young and talented,” says Team Captain Josh Garcia.

Some seniors to watch out for are Eric Anderson, Sidney Merickel and Jake Jerulle. Along with returning senior Koushi Taniguchi who also performs in both cross country and track\’s varsity level.

Some juniors to look out for are Brandon Dang, and Steven Ryan.

On the team this season we have two freshmen, Oscar Fernandez and Derek Huynen.

There are many new faces comparing to last year but with their minds on one thing they will definitely achieve their goal to get to CIF Playoffs.
