With the start of the winter season, comes the end of boys water polo season. A historic season in many aspects, this year\’s team gives hope to the program for years to come.

Led by Coach Eric Perales, the boys finished the season with 15 wins and 10 losses. It was their first time in the last eleven years to have a winning percentage of over 50 percent.

The Barons also won a league game for the first time in six years, beating Edison 9-5. It was also their first time winning against the Chargers in thirteen years.

Their greatest feat this season, however, was making the CIF playoffs. The last time Fountain Valley made it to CIF was before any of the current students were even born – 22 years ago.

The Barons finished the season led by their senior players. Leading scorers, Nick Ingram and Loren Tengan, scored a combined 147 of the team\’s total 279 goals. Their leadership and competitiveness pushed the Barons during the entire season – through the Sunset League and into the playoffs.

“It was definitely the most successful season we have had in a long time. But the best part was that we all had fun – the team had a great time, both in and out of the pool,” says Ingram.

The team will definitely miss all five of the seniors, but with boys off-season already in session, the rest of the team is getting right back into their morning practices. The remaining members hope for even more success next year and look forward to making it back into the playoffs.

Junior Chad Hopkins says, “I believe the future can be better than the past and I\’m ready to see how next season turns out.”
