Au Revoir Simone (oh ruh- vwahr see-moan) consists of a trio set of girls Erika Forster, Annie Hart, and Heather D’Angelo. The ladies say they came up with their name from a line in Tim Burton’s film “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” when Pee Wee Herman says “Au Revoir Simone” to the character Simone. Their distinctive sound shares similarities with The Bird and the Bee, She & Him, and Lykke Li.
Each song can take one into dreamy phases that are eerie yet comforting. It brings a soothing atmosphere that leaves your frame of mind in perfect harmony. Their sound can be described as psychedelic at times, but that’s what makes this band a “one-of-a-kind.” Au Revoir Simone will take you into a dream—and you’ll be awake in it.
Their instruments include keyboards, female vocals, and a drum machine. Their unique ability to create compelling music through only keyboards and their voices engages the listener into a fantasy. They are well known for being “a keyboard band”. What makes them unique is that they are still able to create beautiful melodies without the use of drums and an acoustic guitar. Not all of their songs include the drum machine.
Recently, the trio released their newest album Still Night, Still Light which is currently their third album. Their other albums Verses of Comfort, Assurance, & Salvation and The Bird of Music are both charming and divine. The songs are bound to leave the listener in their own imagination, allowing them to hum the exquisite tunes all day long. Each song tells a story through the appalling lyrics. Some worthy songs to add to your playlist from these girls include: Sad Song, Through the Backyards, Shadows, A Violent yet Flammable World, and The Lucky One.
