Congratulations to our Lady Barons Softball Team on their victory over Newport Harbor 15 to 0. Great job Ladies!
Congratulations to the Consumer & Family Studies students who attended the FHA State Leadership Conference and Competitive Recognition Event in Fresno last weekend. Heather Link competed in Child Development, Story Telling; Thuy Nguyen competed in Fashion Design; Elizabeth Noriega competed in Table Setting and Menu Design and placed third in the State. Ryan Ranieri competed in Salad Preparation and also placed third in the State. We congratulate these students for their hard work, dedication, perseverance and the ability to go above and beyond what is required as students. They are outstanding FVHS Barons!
The annual Dance Team Spring Show is this Saturday in the gym at 6:30 pm. The dance team will be performing all of their competition dances. West Covina High School is bringing their male hip hop team and our very own club soul is performing! Come support the team. Tickets are $5 presale from a dancer and $7 at the door.
Love to sing? Take your beautiful voice out of your car and out of the shower and join one of our award-winning choirs here at FVHS! Auditions for membership in Concert Choir and the infamous Troubadours are approaching SOON. Stop by room 307 and see our Teacher of the Year, Mr. Tison for more information, or ask any choir member. Exciting opportunities and music are already being planned for a crazy successful 2010-2011……don’t miss out on the action! Everybody has a voice….it’s time to start using it!

The Career Center will be hosting Mr. Leo Bell from California Aviation Services Tuesday, May 4th. Have you ever thought about flying helicopters or commercial jets for a living or just pondered what it\’s like to fly in the Wild Blue Yonder. If you answered yes, stop by the Career Center and sign up for the presentation.
The 09/10 school year is almost over and summer is upon us. If you are still finalizing your schedule for Fall 2010 and still need a class or credits consider an ROP class. Coastline ROP is also offering a limited number of classes this summer. To find out more about the summer classes or to sign up for a Fall class stop by the Career Center and see Ms Sanders, she will be happy to assist you with your selection.

Remember to do 30 minutes or more of fitness activity for the Orange County Fitness Challenge and log your time on the calendars that your 3rd period teacher provided. Let’s show the state that – not only are Barons the smartest – but we’re the most physically fit!
Seniors….Today is the last day to pay $100.00 for Grad Night 2010. The price goes up to $120.00 next week. Mail in your application today! Don’t miss out on the Party of the Year.
The DISTRICT WIDE FILM FESTIVAL is tomorrow at the Huntington Beach High School Auditorium at 6:30pm. Come see the short films that your friends and fellow class mates made to compete in the 1st annual Surf City District Wide Film Festival. Admission is $5.00.
The Fountain Valley High School Drama Department presents the musical – You\’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. Tickets are available in room 309 at lunch or after school. One night only- Student Preview on Tuesday May 4th @ 7pm for a $5 discounted price. Additional performances are $10 for students: Wednesday & Thursday, May 5th & 6th at 7:00pm and Friday, May 7th @ 3pm & 7pm. SPACE IS LIMITED so act fast.
Want to win an Ipod? Design or draw a t-shirt for Cross Country\’s annual Central Park Invitational Race. The entry deadline has been extended to Friday, May 7th. For more information, pick up a flyer in room 241.
Prom tickets are on sale. Make sure to get cleared, have your guest contract in by May 4th at 3:00pm. Tickets will stop selling on Thursday, May 6 at 3:00pm. Ticket prices are $60.00 w/ASB or Super Baron and $65.00 without. You can buy yours as a single or a couple. If you are planning on going to Prom, make sure to clear all of your detentions. The last Saturday school before prom is this Saturday, May 1st.
Attention! All bands that are competing tonight, there will be a short mandatory meeting today at lunch in the Activities Office. If you do not show up, you will be disqualified from the competition.
ASB will be hosting “Battle of the Bands” tonight at 6:30pm in the gym. Tickets at the door are only $3.00. El Chavito\’s Taco Truck will be selling food and refreshments tonight. It\’s only 50 cents for a taco. They will be there from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Traffic Alert….. beginning on Monday, May 3rd, expect traffic delays. The City of Fountain Valley will be resurfacing the asphalt in the adjacent tracks. This construction may impede the flow of traffic on the streets surrounding the school. Please refer to your email from Mr. Herzfeld for specific details.
A reminder to students who pre-qualified for Mr. H\’s Star Test Pizza Party, come to room 301 at lunch today. Pre-Qualified students only…. You know who you are!

Come see the short films that your friends and fellow class mates made to compete in the 1st annual Surf City District Wide Film Festival. There are films from Marina, Fountain Valley, Ocean View, Westminster and Huntington Beach High School. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. You’ll pay 5 bucks to get in. 1/2 of the profit from ticket sales will be awarded to the grand prize winning director of the Film Festival and the other 1/2 will go to the film or visual arts department of the school that the winning director attends. Tickets will be sold at the door. It all happens this Saturday May 1st at 6:30 in the Huntington Beach Union High School District Historical Auditorium, located on the Huntington Beach High School campus at 1905 Main Street.

Congratulations to Luis Morales for breaking the school record in the mile at the Orange County Championships. Luis ran 4:17 breaking a record that has stood since the 1970\’s. Kyle Middlebrooks finished second in the 100 meters coming back from an injury. Erika Recupero ran a season best time of 11:22 in the 2 mile, and Brooklyn Paxson ran 46.7 seconds in the 300 hurdles which is the 6th fastest time in school history. Both track teams are tied for first coming down to our last Sunset League meet on Wednesday at Fountain Valley against Esperanza.
Hey Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Did you qualify for Mr. Herzfeld\’s pizza challenge? Did you increase your scores on two California Standards Tests last year? If so, go to the student portal tonight and print out your scores. Bring your proof to the tables outside of attendance tomorrow – Tuesday – at lunch. Qualified students can get pizza on Friday. Only 15 students have responded so far. Mr. H knows that hundreds of you qualify. Don\’t miss out on your slice of opportunity!”

On May 18, 19, and 20, our school will participate in the State STAR testing program, a testing process in which we have excelled in the past and have the highest API score in the school district. Our score last year was 868. This year several students have researched the topic to determine a target goal. The goal they have selected is 880, a challenging, but attainable goal. Every test score counts, so we need everyone\’s best effort. Information about the Incentive program is coming! We will have raffle prizes and other incentives again this year. Soon your period three teacher will share information with you about the upcoming tests. Get Ready Barons, the number is 880!
