Baron Banner caught up with Miguel Santiago, an ASB executive board member to find out more about one of our new school leaders.
BB: What is your position on ASB executive administration?
I am 2010-2011 ASB Treasurer in the executive council.
BB: How did you react when you first found out that you won?
MS: I was really awestruck, happy and surprised. I was at a swim meet when I found out about the results. Quinton Dang called and said “Sorry you didn\’t make it.” I said, “Aw, okay I’ll just do admi-” But he yelled in the phone, “Just kidding you made it!” I was next to Brandon Takahashi and he had to take the phone from me because I was so happy and jumpy!
BB: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of class?
MS: I love swimming, running, reading books, listening to music, watching parodies about mean girls on Youtube, researching on current gay activists\’ events as well. I also enjoy creating music by playing my violin, guitar (I\’m still learning) and my brother’s cello. I also really love painting music, which is where you blast music and then paint what your mind and heart tells you.
BB: What are the activities you\’re involved in at school?
MS: I am in Baron Bridge Builders, Gay Straight Alliance, FVHS Swim, FVHS Dive, ASB, and Senate.
BB: Tell us one of your favorite quotes.
MS: “Whenever you are confronted with an opponent or conflict, conquer them with love” –Gandhi
BB: Do you have a word of advice for the under classmen?
MS: Be yourself and love everyone around you. We can all get along if nobody feels hated, discouraged, outcast, or different. Acceptance is what we all want. Start accepting yourself and others for who they are.
BB: What are some of your favorite foods?
MS: Oh gosh there are so many foods that I love- chocolate, hamburgers, carrots, bananas, watermelon, broccoli, wings from Wing Stop, BJ’s pizza, Thai food, bread… I can cook too!
BB: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
MS: To be able to talk to animals, talk to others with my mind, read people\’s minds, or teleport. One of those, or all of them!
BB: What makes you most excited about being on ASB board?
MS: I\’m very excited to work with new people, coordinate the assemblies and Edison week, build leadership, and meet new people.
BB: What is one thing you\’d like to accomplish?
MS: One thing? There’re so many things I\’d like to accomplish this and next year. My main goal is to promote tolerance, acceptance, and let everyone know that there are people other than themselves. I want to let others be aware that there are more important things to spend their energy on because some of the students in school don’t even try to partake in any school events that promote a certain cause. I also want to be more knowledgeable as well as develop a rockin’ summer bod.
