Ryan Chu

Ryan Chu

by Meagan Faller

Ryan is a ninth-grade cartoonist with big plans. His friends would describe him as shy, quite, and nice, but this is just a veneer that hides a wealth of talent and ambition. He\’s a “not really funny” guy who saves his humor for his comics.

This budding artist weans his inspiration from the laid-back humor found in Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes. He likes to not make himself out as being great or talented, but let his drawings do the talking. He has never taken an art class; but is self-taught and has been drawing for five years.

Upon meeting Ryan, he does give off the impression of a serious guy, not the well of creativity and passion that he actually is. Ryan is starting a new series called “The New Beginning,” which will be a new storyline for him, but with many of the characters in his old comics.

Ryan describes all of his comics as having “action, adventure, and a little humor.” He is not above peppering his new comic with some blood, violence and language, but has plans for an additional comic that can be read by all age groups.

Ryan not only has the talent and the short-term plans, but thinks about his career as well. In the future, when his comic books are published and circulated, he would love to have a television show about his comic book. Upon meeting Ryan, he crackles with sardonic wit, giving an ironic smile when he describes himself as “not really funny.”

And when this Baron talks about his dreams, he lights up with a simple earnestness of one who has found their niche in life. Ladies and gents, meet Ryan Chu the cartoonist.
